Log cabins are one of our core specialisms at IGE Group. We design and build traditional and contemporary log cabin structures for a wide range of uses — garden rooms, home offices, hobby studios, storage buildings, holiday accommodation, or simply a quiet retreat at the bottom of the garden.
Every project starts with a site visit. We assess the ground conditions, discuss your requirements in detail, and plan the right foundation type for your land. From there, we manage the entire build ourselves — base preparation, wall construction, roof, windows and doors, and all exterior finishing.
We use kiln-dried timber sourced from responsible suppliers. Every structure is treated and sealed to cope with the UK's wet winters and sun exposure year after year. We don't cut corners on materials because we know the build will carry our name long after we've left the site.
Optional internal packages are available: insulation, plasterboard lining, and electrical first-fix preparation — making the cabin genuinely usable as a year-round room rather than seasonal storage.

We visit before quoting. Ground conditions, access, drainage, and orientation are all assessed so the plan is right from the start.
Concrete slab, treated timber bearers, or adjustable ground screws — we recommend and build the right base for your specific site and soil.
Walls assembled from precision-profiled kiln-dried logs. Corner joints are hand-fitted for tight, draught-free construction built to stand for decades.
Timber roof frame installed and covered with felt, mineral roofing, or shingles — your choice. Pitched or apex options available depending on the design.
Double-glazed timber windows and a solid or glazed door, fitted and weather-sealed. We discuss placement and style as part of the design process.
All exterior surfaces treated with a quality timber stain or oil — protecting against UV, moisture and rot. Your choice of colour from a full range.
We visit your site, discuss your needs, and assess access and ground conditions before anything else.
We agree the footprint, height, style, and specification. You receive a full written quote with no hidden extras.
Site is prepared, foundation type is built and levelled. This is the most critical step — we take the time to get it right.
Walls, roof, windows and doors go up. Full construction typically completed within 2–4 weeks once on site.
Exterior treatment applied, site cleared, and cabin handed over clean and complete. We walk you through everything.
In most cases, a garden log cabin falls under Permitted Development rights in the UK and does not require a formal planning application. The key conditions are that the cabin is in the rear garden, not forward of the principal elevation of the house, does not exceed 2.5m height if within 2m of a boundary, and is not used as a separate dwelling.
If your property is in a conservation area, listed building setting, or National Park, restrictions may differ. We always advise checking with your local planning authority before we begin. We're happy to advise based on your specific site.
From initial enquiry to handover typically runs 4–8 weeks depending on our current schedule and the complexity of the build. The site work itself — once we start — is usually 2–4 weeks.

Yes. We offer an optional interior package that includes floor, wall and ceiling insulation, plus internal lining (OSB or plasterboard). This transforms the cabin from a seasonal structure into a comfortable year-round room.
We can also prepare the cabin for electrics — running conduit and back boxes so a qualified electrician (which you would arrange separately) can connect it to your supply. We don't carry out the final electrical connection ourselves.
We work with kiln-dried pine, spruce and larch depending on the specification. Kiln-drying reduces moisture content to under 20%, significantly reducing the risk of warping, cracking, or shrinkage after construction.
Every structure is treated with a high-quality exterior timber oil or stain. With proper care and re-treatment every few years, a well-built log cabin will comfortably last 25–40 years or more.
